Tuesday 11/18

November 18th, 2008

Special thank you to Julie and Erin for their time today so I could attend the funeral. I appreciate you!! Homework: math 46B and fact sheet side B. Our Thanksgiving books are looking good. I will send them home next week for you to enjoy! I am thankful for all the wonderful parents I have this year! Your children are growing in faith and knowledge every day thanks to your examples. God Bless

Monday 11/17

November 17th, 2008

Homework: Math 45B and correct fact sheet. Spelling words: in, if, him, his, one, said. We will continue to practice number words one-ten and color words. The sentences I received last week were awesome! Thank you for checking homework each night and reading with your child.  This helps build their confidence. More than half the class raised their hands to read today when I asked for volunteers! We had silent reading for 10 minutes today without interruption. That is a huge improvement! Please keep Mr. Johnson and his family in your prayers. God Bless.

Friday 11/14

November 14th, 2008

The usual Friday paperwork will come home Monday. I dropped the sorted piles this morning and didn’t have time to fix it!! At mass today Fr. talked about saying thank you to others and showing kindness. Also, we should not be content with our lives but always try to be a better person. Ask your child to read to you this weekend - some words, a sentence, a page, a book - whatever works.

Tuesday at 10am is the funeral for Mr. Johnson’s mother. Our school staff will attend the mass and a sub/parents will be with the class during lunch and recess. Please keep Mr. J. and his family in your prayers. Thank you.

Thurs. 11/13

November 13th, 2008

Homework: math 43B. Picture retakes tomorrow. First graders may bring a game to play tomorrow if they want. We have been working very hard on self-discipline. Please remind your child to “treat others as they want to be treated”. Thank you!!

Wed. 11/12

November 12th, 2008

Homework: math 42B. Tomorrow is library, girls sharing, and GREEN AND WHITE DAY. Today we finished our veterans day wreaths, which are awesome! We practiced math facts on the board today so no worksheet. Please remember: Friday is picture retake day. Students not here the first time will get their picture taken for the class picture. The little bit of snow was nice - added some new fun to our recess!

Tuesday 11/11

November 11th, 2008

I would like to say a sincere “thank you” to all veterans. Thank you for your gift of time, talents, and courage for our country. We talked about what “veteran” means, and who knew or knows someone who served our country in the military. We also discussed freedom, democracy, and the choices we can make. Homework: math fact sheet 42B; handwriting paper - write 5 sentences (on your own) using words you know. They can copy words from things at home, too. My example was to go into the frig’ and get the ketchup bottle, then write a sentence! We will share some of them tomorrow in class. Today we made “pots” with the clay dude! Fun, harder than they thought, and messy!!

Monday 11/10

November 10th, 2008

Homework: Math 41B and fact worksheet. Please check homework for accuracy and correct number writing (no backwards). Spelling words: sand, land, hand, fall, ball, all. I did not send handwriting paper home but writing sentences with the words is always good practice. Tomorrow is boys sharing.  FYI: The first grade will be working with clay in the afternoon and may get a little messy! I’m not sure what the clay dude has planned but it’s always a fun learning experience. Have a good night!

Friday 11/7

November 7th, 2008

At mass today Father said their was “strange white stuff falling from the sky.” At the end of mass he said to consider it God sprinkling “grace” on all of us. What a wonderful thought! No homework - stay safe and have a good weekend.

Thurs. 11/6

November 6th, 2008

Homework: Math Fact Sheet to correct. Please check folders for a note from me attached to your child’s report card. For those who ordered pictures they are enclosed; retakes Nov. 14th. Tomorrow is the last day to turn in rake-a-thon money and be eligible for prizes.  Today we read The Little Red Hen out loud from our books. Stories like that are positive for all reading levels. Those who read well learn to use expression and animate their voice for various characters. Struggling readers are successful due to word repetition and picture clues. Reading should be fun, not frustrating. Have you read a good picture book lately? Ask your child about the pigeon books we read, including the hot dog. Reading can make you smile and laugh out loud - and that’s good medicine for us all.

Wed. 11/5

November 5th, 2008

Homework: math 39B and fact sheet 39. Library tomorrow. Today we watched the school play (dress rehearsal). We are writing a “thankfulness” book. Each day during November we talk about things we are thankful for, write a sentence or two in the book, and draw a picture to go with the writing. We all have many blessings to share!
