Social Studies NE State Project

January 22nd, 2008

All students have been assigned a state from the NE to report on. I have given them 3 sheets of information to look up. I allowed a week of social studies classes to do research and complete the sheets. Most students are finished with that part of the project. Those who are not quite done must finish at home. In addition to the written report, students must also make a map of their state. Here are the requirements:

*Make a map of the assigned state out of any material other than paper. Some ideas are clay, play dough, styrofoam, cake, wood and any other creative ideas you can come up with.

*Include the name of the state, the major rivers and lakes, mountains (if any), the capital city and several other major cities.

*Include a map key.

*Your name

*Show quality and neatness

*Correct spelling

*Use color

*Be creative and have fun

Due date: Tuesday, February 5

Newsletter 1/22

January 22nd, 2008

I hope you all had a nice long weekend. I enjoyed some activities with friends and family. I liked the slight reprieve in the weather yesterday, but today seems to be back in the below zero digits. Try to stay warm. Here’s the news of the week:

Spelling: Lesson 16 Standard group does p. 64-66 Challenge group does p. 67 including part I. Challenge words are: beauty, duty, fuel, insure, stored, restaurant, listen, muscle, accurate, advertisement. Because of the short week, homework is due on Thursday and the test is on Friday.

Math: T - L63 W - Supplemental L64, p. 577 Th - L64 F- Lesson 65

Reading: Continue to record at-home reading minutes for January. A new AR goal will be set for the third quarter. I am sending a sheet home for you as a family to set a reasonable goal for the third quarter. I will write a minimum goal down, and you can set the goal at the minimum or higher. Students will be graded on the percent of goal they achieve for the third quarter. This will help to individualize goals so they are attainable, but also challenging.

Social Studies: State project. See separate post.

3rd Quarter: The third quarter of the school year starts today. Report cards for the 2nd quarter will be sent home on Thursday.

Catholic Schools Week: This Sunday, January 27 is Open House. We have many fun activities planned throughout the week. Take a look at the separate post. I’ll also send email reminders of the daily events.
