Welcome to the 2007 School Year
Welcome to all my new students and parents. I am busy preparing for a fun and exciting new school year. I hope you are as anxious as I am to get started. I’ll see you at Back-to-School Night today from 4 to 6 pm. I’m looking forward to getting to know you all. If you want to know a little more about me in the meantime, read my introduction letter.

Dear Parents,
I will be your child’s fourth-grade teacher this year. I’m looking forward to beginning a productive and fun year. I’d like to introduce myself and tell you a little about my family.
I’ve taught at St. Raphael’s since 1991 when I began here by teaching third grade. Since then I’ve also taught fourth grade, small reading groups, sixth grade math, and junior high math, religion, and literature. So you can see I’ve had a variety of experiences. I’m happy to be teaching fourth grade again this year.
I have many hobbies that I enjoy. I spent a lot of time this summer in my garden raising vegetables and flowers. I am currently working on adding another perennial bed to my yard. I am an avid quilter and had a great time attending a quilt retreat in August in Augusta, Wisconsin. I also like to cook and read.
My husband is a barber and owns his own business in the area. My daughter, Jen, is an editor and communications specialist at the University of Minnesota. Her husband, Paul, is a systems administrator for an internet company. My son, Jon, works in marketing. His wife, Kate, works in private banking. My youngest, Tim just graduated this May from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota. He started working as a civil engineer in June. Then he purchased a house in July. My husband and I have been busy helping him with a little painting and landscaping. That makes us official “empty nesters.”
I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you better. Please feel free to stop by and visit when I’m available before or after school even if there are no problems. You can reach me by calling the school number: 763-504-9450 Ext. 310. If you need to contact me immediately you can leave a message with our secretary Mary Kay. You can also email me at jan.schulz@srsmn.org. I check my email before school, at lunch, and after school, at a minimum.
Once again, I’m looking forward to this year with enthusiasm. God bless you and your families.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schulz
