Physical Education PreK - Third Grade

Our class goals will be to help us grow in team work and self control. Please pray for us.

Team work together everyone achieves more.

Self Control is when I control what I do and what I say. I use my self control to follow directions in class. Using self control helps me resist doing things that may be harmful to myself and others. Self- control helps me stay safe and be successful.

September lesson: Perceptual Power some of the concepts we will work on are body and spacial awareness, non-locomotor and locomotion skills, directionality and pathways, levels and rates of movement. We would like to enhance social and personal development, students learning to share, cooperate, take turns, and experience personal success through movement. We will also have low level games.

Exciting news: Our primary grades will introduce this fall the peaceful playground lesson plans for our students in all grades. We are so thankful( God Bless you) to our P.H.T and parents who worked so hard to paint our games, and lessons on our school playground in August.

Our primary grades will introduce several lessons each week this month in our class. The five principals of a peaceful playground are:

1. Marking the playgrounds.

2. Consistent set of rules.

3. Solutions to conflicts.

4. Equipment available.

5. Consistent set of rules.

Our conflict Resolutions are:

1. Walk away from the problem ( Cool down)

2. Talk with each other.

3. Use rock, paper, scissors game.

Grades 4-8 Class Lesson Plans September/October

1. Soccer skills and games. We will divide our class into four teams, and divide our gym into two playing fields to work on soccer skills and game like situations.

2.Flag football skills and games.

3. Ultimate frisbee

Physical Education PreK-8

Personal Mission Statement: Teaching is much more then just following a set of principles or having a well established classroom.Teaching to me is an interaction in young children’s lives. I would like each child that enters my classroom door to begin not only an educational process in a fitness skill, but to begin a greater awareness of who they are as children of God.

I’m very excited to start my 31st teaching year at Saint Raphael School. My teaching experiences have been twenty four years of teaching science and health, dean of students, associate athletic director, and physical education. This school year I will enter my fourth year as athletic director for all extra curricular activities. I will also be entering my 31 st year of coaching, and I feel blessed to have been appointed as the new boy’s head basketball coach at Cooper high school this year.

I’m so very thankful to be a part of a very special catholic community with so many special memories of families, children, and staff. Please let us pray for each other as we enter our new school year this September.

When preparing for physical education classes please remember when purchasing tennis shoe’s to look for non- marking soles to help protect our floors from scratches and shoe marks. This will also apply to winter boots. Students will not be able to participate in class unless they have tennis shoes that have shoe laces, and non- marking soles.
This past spring our P.H.T purchased the peaceful playgroup lessons for our school. We will introduce several lessons each week so our student can carry these valuable individual and team games into our playground time.

Five Important parts to a peaceful playground:
1. Marking the playgrounds which was accomplished by so many wonderful parents.

2.Consistent set of rules.

3. Solutions to conflicts.

4. Equipment available.

5. Consistent expectations.

Grading: Physical education grades will be based on outcomes listed below. We ask that each student in class to do the best they can each day with the gifts that God has blessed them with. Not only for themselves but for each student in our classroom setting.

1.Psychomotor which includes all large and small muscle skills. We hope to promote a lifetime interest in fitness. Motor and fitness skills are necessary for choosing activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.

2.Affective which includes the social aspects of self control, emotions, feelings, attitude, values modeling, and appreciation of God’s gift given to each of us. Positive group interactions, communication, respect for oneself and others; sportmanship, fair play, and cooperative actions. We also want to learn from our success and failures.

3. Cognitive which is the application of information necessary for choosing activities that promote a healthy lifestyle. We also hope to gain an understanding of all rules and skills that are needed to perform each activity.

God Bless you,

Mr. Johnson
